The End of the Line?:
Looking Back at Our Year Teaching On the Road
August 23, 2010

Last August, my husband, 3 year-old daughter, 85-lb lab, and I sold
our belongings in Atlanta, GA and set out on the road in our new
home- a green school bus. Our mission: to teach free hooping and
fire classes across the nation for as long as we could.
Today, a full and glorious year later, it seems the time has come home to roost.  "Blue," our valiant 2002 Passat
Wagon, loyal companion on our trip, has called it quits. And with her, gone too is our ability to run out to the store,
ship orders from the road, and the security of having a backup vehicle. So, for our last hurrah, we all piled into our
house-on-wheels (still, thankfully, running strong and true!) for one last, 26 hour voyage to family in Louisiana.

When we set out, we envisioned our trip as a way to give back to the hooping community for your 7
years of support to our little family business. But as often happens when one attempts to give, we
received more than we could have ever hoped for! We could not have known how much love,
hospitality, guidance, and kindness we would receive in return. And we could not be more grateful for it.

Most treasured amongst the blessing we received on our travels are the countless friends
we made along the way!
At every stop, we felt conflicted about moving on to the next city because
you made us feel like family. Thank you for sharing your families, homes, meals, and lives with all of us.

We are equally grateful for the input and guidance we received as hoop-makers. It has
proven invaluable to us to meet and speak with you, and learn first-hand what you want from your
hoops. You have greatly influenced our hoop designs, product lines, and customer service. We are a
better company today because of you.

As a hooping instructor, I feel a personal debt and gratitude beyond measure to each of you who
allowed me the honor of dancing with you this past year. I stand in awe of your individuality, courage,
and pursuit of self-expression and healing within your hoops. I owe my tremendous growth as a
teacher this year to you, who taught me, even when I was under the illusion that I was teaching you.
As a student of hoopdance, it is truly a thing of beauty to behold the artistry of so many different
approaches to the art we all love so very much. In the hoop with you, I have experienced true grace.

So What's Next?
Our experiences on the road have been the source of a flood of inspiration! Our line of light-weight
hoops and mini hoops were the result of your suggestions in Birmingham, Memphis, Columbia, and
Nashville. We got married in Ohio.
Hooposophy was conceived in Columbia, SC and born in Orlando,
FL. The LED/Fire minis got their start during a stop back home in Atlanta. And the
Hooping Family Tree
Project took its first steps in Wisconsin.

And that's just the beginning! I
n the next few weeks, we'll be fully launching two new massive online
projects geared towards recording and preserving the unique stories of hoopers worldwide. I will also
begin field-testing a new series of workshops this Fall designed to take hoopers on an intense and
introspective trip into the source and soul of their dance. As a teaser, think of it as a sort of Vision Quest
for hoopers. (If we didn't get to your city or state this past year, you're first on our list for
test-workshops!). And that's just where we're starting with the incredible list of ideas generated from one
amazing year on the road meeting, getting to know and love, hoop with, and learn from ... you, our
community and family.

We're parking the bus (for now), but we're not done. Not even close.

We already know that this year changed everything for us. And we know we owe it to you.
Thank you from the bottom of our hoops and hearts,

Lara
And Drew, Navi, and Atilla.
